NE Syria lacks breast cancer medications – AANES official
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A health official of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Wednesday that Northeast Syria faces a shortage of breast cancer medications, forcing women to undertake difficult journeys to access treatment elsewhere.
Maather al-Abbas, a AANES health official in the city of Qamishli, highlighted during a lecture about early detection of breast cancer that many women cannot receive timely treatment due to the lack of available medications.
Al-Abbas stated to North Press that some medications are provided to cancer patients by organizations that do not operate in Northeast Syria.
She attributed the rising incidence of breast cancer in the region to lack of awareness and insufficient visits to early detection centers.
While AANES authorities lack precise statistics on breast cancer cases, al-Abbas indicated that health authorities are committed to improving monitoring efforts in the future.
Al-Abbas also called for increased support for breast cancer patients in Northeast Syria.
