IFJ condemns killing Syrian TV anchor in Israeli strike on Damascus
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has strongly condemned on Tuesday the killing of Safaa Ahmad, a prominent state TV anchor, during an Israeli airstrike on Damascus.
The IFJ called for accountability, urging that those responsible for attacks on journalists be brought to justice.
Syria’s state-run news agency, SANA, reported that Ahmad was killed in the early hours of Tuesday as a result of an Israeli airstrike on the Syrian capital.
She was known for her role as a broadcaster and presenter of various social and cultural programs on state television.
According to a military source cited by SANA, the airstrike was carried out by Israeli aircraft and drones, targeting several locations in Damascus from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan.
“We condemn her killing and reaffirm that those who commit crimes against journalists must face prosecution by the International Criminal Court,” the IFJ stated on its official X platform.
