Syria’s FM calls on U.N. to halt Israeli aggression against Arabs

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Bassam Sabbagh, on Monday called on all U.N. member states to take action to stop Israeli aggression against Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon.

According to Syria’s state-run news agency SANA, Sabbagh urged the international community “to put an end to Israeli aggression on Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon” and to hold Israel accountable for its actions.

This came during Syrian government’s statement at the 79th session of the U.N. General Assembly, where Sabbagh emphasized the need for justice and accountability.

He warned that “the ongoing Israeli occupation of Arab lands since 1967, including the Syrian Golan, and the continued perpetration of genocide and war crimes, stand as stark reminders of the United Nations’ failure to address this issue.”

Sabbagh also linked Israel’s actions to broader international dynamics, stating that “the crimes of Israel and its ongoing aggression against Syria cannot be separated from the destructive role played by some Western countries, especially the United States, in Syria.”

He described Syria as having faced “a brutal terrorist war, direct military aggression, severe economic sanctions, and relentless political and media campaigns, all funded by massive sums aimed at destabilizing the country.”

In recent months, Israel has intensified its operations in the region, particularly in Gaza and southern Lebanon, citing efforts to counter Iranian-backed forces in the area.

Recently, more than 100,000 Syrian refugees fled Lebanon to Syria following Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon.
