Rocket attack targets U.S. base in Deir ez-Zor
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A rocket fired by Iranian-backed militias struck a U.S. base at the Conoco Oil Field in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria, a war monitor said on Saturday.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the rocket, launched from areas controlled by the Syrian government forces, caused an explosion at the base late on Friday.
The attack, the second attack on the base in less than 72 hours, prompted heightened security measures from U.S. forces stationed there. No casualties have been reported, the SOHR added.
In response, the U.S.-led Global Coalition has conducted a series of arrests targeting those suspected of involvement in the assaults.
Moreover, the SOHR said that special forces of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish), in coordination with Coalition forces, arrested five individuals in the village of al-Ozba in the east of Deir ez-Zor.
These arrests bring the total number of suspects detained in al-Ozba to seven, following the capture of two individuals a day earlier who confessed to participating in the attack alongside others.
The Asayish have yet to comment on these events.
