DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad issued on Sunday a general amnesty for crimes related to military desertion and minor offenses committed up to the date of the legislative decree.
The amnesty fully exempts individuals guilty of desertion, both internal and external, from punishment under military law, provided they are not fugitives and surrender within three months for internal desertion or four months for external desertion.
In addition, the amnesty applies to minor offenses, with certain exceptions for crimes considered a threat to society and the state.
These exceptions include bribery, certain types of fraud, public decency violations, and specific theft-related offenses.
Crimes not included in the amnesty involve violations of construction regulations, economic crimes, and transactions conducted in foreign currencies.
