Government forces kill 2 HTS militants in Aleppo
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian government forces shelled on Wednesday posts of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, once known as al-Nusra Front) in the countryside of Aleppo in northwestern Syria, killing two HTS militants.
The government shelling resulted in the destruction of an HTS military post in the village of Kafr Taal in the west of Aleppo, killing two of its militants and injuring four others.
North Press correspondent, citing a military source, reported that the government forces targeted HTS posts in the villages of Kafr Taal, Kafr Amma, and al-Abzimo in the countryside of Aleppo, and Kansafra and Kafr Owaid in the south of Idlib with heavy artillery shells and rockets.
HTS responded to the shelling by targeting the posts of the government forces in the Base 46 in western Aleppo and also shelled other posts in the city of Kafr Nabl and the town of Hazarin in southern Idlib.
Northwest Syria, also known as the de-escalation zone, witnesses mutual bombardment between parties to the conflict that include the government forces, the SNA factions, and the HTS, in addition to Russian airstrikes from time to time.
The de-escalation zone includes cities, towns and villages among the governorates of Aleppo, Idlib, Hama and Latakia. It is subjected to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement that was signed in March 2020. The agreement was signed in Moscow and stipulated a ceasefire, the establishment of a safe corridor, and the conduct of joint patrols on the M4/Aleppo-Latakia Highway.
