Blasts by pager devices injure 14 people in Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Fourteen people were injured on Tuesday in Syria due to an explosion of pagers used by the Lebanese Hezbollah, according to a war monitoring group based in Britain.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that “14 people of unknown nationalities were injured in Damascus and Rif Dimashq, due to the explosion of personal communication devices of the Lebanese ‘Hezbollah.'”

This happened as numerous handheld pagers exploded at the same time in Lebanon and some areas of Syria.

The explosions resulted in the killing of at least nine individuals, including a child, and the injury of  2,750 of Hezbollah militants, according to officials from both the Lebanese government and Hezbollah.

A source close to Hezbollah told AFP that some of its members were injured in explosions caused by pagers in Syria, but did not provide details on the number of injuries.

Meanwhile, SOHR said citing a source that four individuals were injured in a car explosion caused by the explosion of the pagers near the Kafr Souseh neighborhood in Damascus.

Additionally, seven people were wounded in the Sayyida Zainab area, and three people sustained injuries in the Qalamoun region.
