IRGC recruits fighters for deployment near SDF areas in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is working to recruit individuals to deploy them along the Euphrates River, adjacent to areas controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Deir ez-Zor countryside, eastern Syria.

After training, the recruited individuals will join the Regiment 47 which supports the Tribal Forces, a militia affiliated with both Iran and the Syrian government forces and is dedicated to combatting the SDF, and deploy along the Euphrates River, a source said.

The source, who is working with one of the groups on the western bank of the Euphrates River, added that a leader affiliated with Iran, named Abu Issa al-Hamdan, is overseeing the recruitment of residents from the town of Abu Kamal and the surrounding villages in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The recruits must be under the age of 45 and are offered a monthly salary of 1.5 million Syrian pounds (about $100), in addition to food and transportation allowances. The work schedule is 20 days per month, according to the source.

The first training sessions for the Regiment 47 are set to begin at camps in the desert of the village of Sukkariya, southeast of Deir ez-Zor, on Sep. 22.

Groups affiliated with the IRGC and militants of the government-backed National Defense Forces (NDF) continuously launch attacks on SDF positions on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River.
