CENTCOM announces killing 4 senior ISIS members in Iraq in August
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Friday the killing of four senior members of the Islamic State (ISIS) during a raid in Iraq in August.
“This operation targeted ISIS leaders and served to disrupt and degrade ISIS’ ability to plan, organize, and conduct attacks against Iraqi civilians, as well as U.S. citizens, allies, and partners throughout the region and beyond,” CENTCOM stated on X.
Initially, CENTCOM said that 15 ISIS operatives were killed in a partnered raid with Iraqi Security Forces in Western Iraq on Aug. 29.
A subsequent assessment, however, revealed that among those killed were four high-ranking ISIS members, including the leader responsible for all operations in Iraq.
“As part of the on-going post-raid assessment, CENTCOM can confirm that four ISIS leaders were killed including: Ahmad Hamid Husayn Abd-al-Jalil al-Ithawi, responsible for all operations in Iraq, Abu Hammam, responsible for overseeing all operations in Western Iraq, Abu-‘Ali al-Tunisi, responsible for overseeing technical development, and Shakir Abud Ahmad al-Issawi, responsible for overseeing military operations in Western Iraq.”
General Michael Erik Kurilla, stated that CENTCOM is dedicated to permanently defeating ISIS because the group still poses a threat to the United States, its allies, and overall stability in the region.
