U.S. imposes new sanctions on Lebanese network linked to Hezbollah

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. Department of the Treasury imposed on Wednesday new sanctions on a Lebanese network accused of smuggling oil and liquefied gas to support Hezbollah’s financing efforts.

The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) targeted three individuals, five companies, and two vessels, which it claims are under the supervision of a senior leader within Hezbollah’s financial team.

According to the OFAC, the network used profits from illegal shipments of liquefied petroleum gas to Syria to generate revenue for the group.

Acting Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Bradley Smith said Hezbollah “continues to launch rockets into Israel and fuel regional instability, choosing to prioritize funding violence over taking care of the people it claims to care about, including the tens of thousands displaced in southern Lebanon.”
