ISIS kills government soldier, attacks oil tankers in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) launched on Wednesday morning a series of attacks targeting posts of the Syrian government forces and oil tankers in areas run by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
According to a military source, ISIS militants employed light and medium machine guns in attacks on posts of the government forces situated in the towns of al-Quriyah and al-Mayadin in eastern Deir ez-Zor.
The source added that intense clashes followed, resulting in the killing of a government soldier and the injury of three others.
The militants subsequently retreated to the surrounding desert, he added.
In a separate incident on Tuesday, two individuals riding a motorcycle, believed to be affiliated with ISIS, attacked oil tankers near the desert in the town of al-Dahla in Deir ez-Zor countryside.
The attack caused substantial material damage and rendered the tankers inoperable.
These attacks highlight the ongoing volatility in the area and the persistent threat posed by ISIS despite ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
