HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Turkish border guards assaulted on Thursday night three young men while they were attempting to cross into Turkey in Hasakah Governorate, Northeast Syria.
The young men tried to cross into Turkey in the countryside of Derbasiyah, a town in the northern countryside of Hasakah.
A medical source at Khabat Hospital in Derbasiyah said they received the three young men in an emergency situation on Friday morning after they had been severely beaten with sticks and metal tools across various parts of their bodies.
The medical source, who preferred to remain anonymous, added that Ibrahim al-Fares, 28, Khedr al-Ali, 34, and Saddam al-Arna, 18, hail from the town of Tel Tamr, were severely beaten in various parts of their bodies, resulting in bruises and strong contusions.
He indicated that the residents found the young men near the town’s cemetery and transported them to the hospital.
The young men are still in the hospital as security procedures are being completed and their families are expected to take custody of them, according to the source.
Syrians attempting to cross the Syrian-Turkish border face routine violence, including severe beatings, torture, and even fatal shootings by the Turkish border guards.
Driven by harsh living conditions and limited opportunities, Syrians are forced to take dangerous smuggling routes.
Many make these perilous journeys in hopes of reuniting with their families, finding employment, or reaching Europe to seek asylum and secure a better future. The dire economic and humanitarian situation in Syria leaves them with few other options.
