Austria intends to deport Syrians, Afghans

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Austria announced on Sunday that it will begin deporting Syrian and Afghan nationals, citing recent changes in the security landscape across Europe.

The country’s Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum stated that deportations will be evaluated individually based on the updated security situation.

In line with Germany’s approach, Austria is set to deport Syrians and Afghans, particularly those with criminal records. Chancellor Karl Nehammer explained that Austria has been working closely with Germany to find a solution to the deportation issue, especially regarding Afghan and Syrian nationals.

“We’ve been in talks with Germany’s Minister of the Interior for a long time, discussing how to proceed with deportations to Afghanistan,” Nehammer said. “The next step is to be able to deport directly to Afghanistan or Syria.”

Austria’s Interior Minister Gerhard Karner added on Friday, “It is essential that we resume deportations to Afghanistan and Syria,” confirming that these measures will be enforced moving forward.
