ISIS claims stabbing attack in Germany
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed on Saturday responsibility for an attack that took place during a festival in Solingen, a city in western Germany, which led to multiple casualties.
In a statement issued by the ISIS-affiliated Amaq news agency, the group said that one of its militants carried out the attack using a bladed weapon. The attack, they said, was an act of retaliation for the treatment of Muslims in Palestine and around the world.
German authorities had earlier announced the arrest of the suspect saying that he confessed in custody. The man, a Syrian national aged 26, has been provisionally arrested, and his involvement “in the events is currently the subject of a thorough investigation”, said the statement.
On Friday, chaos erupted in a crowded square in Solingen when a man armed with a gun and a knife attacked festival-goers, leaving three dead and injuring eight others. Five of the injured are currently in critical condition. Local media reported that witnesses described the assailant as having “Arab features.”
