Iraq repatriates 2,448 families from camps in NE Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Iraq revealed on Saturday that it has repatriated over 2,448 Iraqi families from Hawl Camp in Northeast Syria, with 1,940 of them successfully rehabilitated and resettled across seven governorates as part of ongoing efforts to reintegrate displaced citizens.
According to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the National Security Advisor confirmed that the government has successfully repatriated 2,448 families from Syria’s Hawl Camp, with 1,940 of them rehabilitated and integrated into communities across seven different governorates.
Saeed al-Jiyashi, Strategic Affairs Advisor to the National Security Advisory, announced that Iraqi authorities have decided to repatriate only Iraqi nationals, who will first be transferred to the rehabilitation center in Jadaa. There, they will undergo a 90-day rehabilitation program before being reintegrated into their home regions.
He stressed that the Iraqi government is steadfast in its commitment to repatriate all displaced Iraqi families, whether they are currently in Turkey or northern Syria.
Al-Jiyashi reported that the government has repatriated 16 groups, totaling over 2,448 families—nearly 9,000 individuals. Of these, 1,940 families have been rehabilitated and successfully reintegrated into communities across seven Iraqi provinces.
He also pointed out that one of the main challenges in returning displaced persons from Hawl is the lack of proper documentation for some families.
