4,000 Syrians acquire Swedish citizenship in H1 2024
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Between January and June of 2024, 4,192 Syrians acquired Swedish citizenship, Schengen News announced on Tuesday.
It said the Syrians were granted the Swedish citizenship the most in March with 787 nationals, while in June the number was the lowest so far this year which did not exceed 586 nationals.
After Syria, Eritrea came in the second place with 3,466 and then Afghanistan 2,519. The three countries represented 30.2 percent of all nationals that acquired citizenship for this period.
Also, Somalia with 1,511 nationals came in the fourth place and Poland with 1,509 in the fifth place.
According to Schengen News, the number of foreigners who were granted Swedish citizenship in the first half of 2024 reached 33,633, which is 11.8 percent less than in 2023.
Foreigners obtained the Swedish citizenship the most in April with 6,694, while the lowest numbers were recorded in June which was 4,775, Schengen News reported.
