Top-ranking Russian commander visits SDF’s Abdi

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Sergei Kissel, Russian forces commander in Syria, visited on Tuesday Mazloum Abdi, Commander in Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Both parties discussed the recent escalation between the SDF and the Syrian government forces in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, and the heightened security in Hasakah and Qamishli, Northeast Syria.

North Press obtained information about the approval of Abdi to end the security alertness imposed by the SDF on the government-held neighborhoods in Hasakah and Qamishli.

An informed source considered Abdi’s approval as a goodwill gesture to reduce the escalation.

The source did not provide additional information regarding the events in Deir ez-Zor, and said “work is continuing on it.”

On Aug. 9, the government forces shelled the town of al-Dahla and the village of Jadeed Bakkarah, east of Deir ez-Zor, killing 11 civilians and injured six others, the SDF Media Center said.

On Aug. 7, Iranian-backed militants launched a ground attack from the eastern bank of the Euphrates River and infiltrated villages and towns in areas held by the SDF in the eastern bank of the Euphrates River in Deir ez-Zor.
