Turkish forces, affiliated SNA factions shell Syria’s Manbij

MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – Manbij Military Council, a component of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said on Friday Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), villages in the northern countryside of Manbij in northern Syria.

The military council added that the shelling affected the villages of Awn Dadat and al-Jat. Both villages are populated.

The Turkish forces and the SNA factions targeted the two villages with more than 33 shells, according to the council.

Villages in the northern countryside of Manbij frequently endure shelling and infiltration attempts by the Turkish forces and their affiliated SNA factions, leading to casualties and material damage.

Manbij and its surrounding countryside are militarily controlled by the Manbij Military Council, established in 2017 by local communities. Administratively, the area is governed by the Democratic Civil Administration of Manbij, which is affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

The SDF, with support from the U.S.-led Global Coalition, liberated Manbij from the Islamic State (ISIS) in 2016 following intense battles.
