Russian-SDF meeting in Syria’s Qamishli ends without positive results 

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A source from inside Qamishli International Airport in Northeast Syria reported on Friday that the meeting between the Russian commander in Syria, officials from the Syrian government, and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) did not yield any positive results.

The government source, who spoke to North Press on condition of anonymity, stated that the meeting addressed the recent events in Deir ez-Zor and the issue of the government-held neighborhoods in the cities of Qamishli and Hasakah besieged by the SDF.

He clarified that the meeting ended without any positive outcomes.

Early on Friday, commander of the Russian forces in Syria, accompanied by senior officers, arrived at Qamishli International Airport to hold talks regarding the recent events in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

The eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor witnessed on Friday a mass displacement following a bloody night that resulted in the killing of 11 civilians and the injury of others by the government forces. 

For the third consecutive day, the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, controlled by the SDF, has been experiencing a military escalation. The government forces and Iranian-backed militias have launched attacks and shelling from their positions on the western bank of the Euphrates River. The attacks have led to the killing of 11 civilians and the injury of six others, according to the SDF Media Center.
