Germany issues arrest warrant against Syrian for stabbing family

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A German court issued an arrest warrant against a Syrian immigrant for stabbing a five-member family in downtown Stuttgart last week, a German newspaper reported on Monday.

The court issued the arrest warrant against Khalil H. after committing 34 offenses in 31 months, the German Bild newspaper said.

According to the Bild, Khalil H., born in Aleppo and a refugee in Germany, was known to police for his dangerous behavior but was neither imprisoned nor deported. He continued his actions until he nearly killed a 37-year-old, who is now expected to survive.

On July 30, Khalil H. and two other immigrants insulted a family in a pedestrian zone, who ignored the provocation. Khalil H. and his accomplices returned with knives, and Khalil H. alone carried out the stabbing, according to the Bild.

Several high-profile stabbing incidents involving immigrants from different countries in Germany have raised public concerns and debates about immigration policies and public safety. These incidents have contributed to a growing discourse on the integration of refugees, the efficiency of the legal system, and the need for stricter immigration controls and deportation policies for individuals who commit serious crimes.

Another Syrian immigrant with a Dutch passport allegedly committed a knife attack against a four-year-old girl in a supermarket in Wangen im Allgäu, southern Germany, in April, seriously injuring her.

Asking a psychiatric report to check his mental state, the prosecution has accused the 34-year-old man of attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm.

The motive of the perpetrator remains unclear but the man was already known to the police, as he had acted aggressively before. He is said to have come to Wangen im Allgäu in 2023 to visit his sister and her family.
