Russia arrests 2 men recruiting ISIS militants to fight in Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Russian law enforcement officials announced on Monday arresting two men suspected of recruiting people to join the Islamic State group (ISIS) operating in Syria.

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that its agents, in cooperation with the police and investigators, disrupted “an international terrorist organization’s resource channel.”

The two men were arrested in the Tyumen region for recruiting 19 individuals to participate in terrorist activities in Syria between February 2015 and November 2022, as reported by Russia’s Investigative Committee.

The FSB said the two individuals were arrested for raising funds to support ISIS members and now face charges for encouraging terrorist activities.

Russia has been involved in Syria since 2015, aiding Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against opposition groups.
