ISIS militants attack oil investor in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Armed militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) targeted on Monday night an oil well investor in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria for refusing to pay zakat to the group.
A local source said ISIS militants attacked the house of Thamer al-Anad, an oil well investor, with two bombs and a machine gun in the village of Takihi in the east of Deir ez-Zor.
Recently, ISIS has increased its attacks against oil well investors and tanker drivers, resulting in casualties and material damage.
On July 19, ISIS militants attacked an oil investor and an employee of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in two separate attacks in Deir ez-Zor.
The source added that clashes broke out between al-Anad and the militants, forcing the attackers to retreat.
The attack resulted in material damage only.
Before the attack, al-Anad had received threats via WhatsApp for refusing to pay zakat to the group, according to the source.
