Netherlands witnesses population growth due to immigration

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Netherlands’s statistics institution reported on Tuesday that the increase in the Dutch population over the past six months was completely credited to immigration with Syrians taking the lead of non-EU immigrants.

Statistics Netherlands (CBS) said most immigrants came from European countries, while the largest number of immigrants among non-EU countries was Syria, with over 11,000 people.

Additionally, 6,600 people came from Ukraine, 4,500 from Turkey, 2,000 from Romania, and 1,600 from South Africa.

In the first half of 2024, the population of the Netherlands increased by 39,000, reaching a total of 17.98 million residents.

This growth is lesser compared to the same period in 2023, when the population increased by more than 52,000.

In summary, immigration decreased by over 11,000 people, bringing the total to 138,000.

At the same time, emigration rose by nearly 1,000 people, reaching a total of 92,000 individuals, with the number of Europeans leaving the Netherlands being the largest.
