U.S. diplomat discusses human rights situation in NW Syria with SIG

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A senior U.S. diplomat met on Friday leaders of the Syrian opposition and discussed human rights situation in northwestern Syria, a region under the control of the opposition and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front).

Syria Regional Platform (SRP) Director Nikolas Granger met Syrian Interim Government (SIG) Prime Minister Abdurrahman Mustafa and the SIG Council of Ministers in the city of Gaziantep, southern Turkey.

According to the official X Platform of the U.S. Embassy in Syria, the two parties discussed the SIG’s efforts to meet the needs of Syrians in opposition-controlled areas, including efforts to increase respect for human rights.

They also discussed the efforts to ensure accountability and justice, foster safety and security, and encourage investment and economic growth.

Granger affirmed U.S. support for the Syrian opposition and its integral role in achieving an inclusive, Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political solution to the Syrian conflict in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
