AANES releases 141 terrorism-related prisoners in Syria’s Qamishli

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) released on Monday 141 prisoners from Alaya Prison in the city of Qamishli in Northeast Syria, after granting a general amnesty.

The released prisoners were received by their relatives and tribal leaders.

Hassan Farhan Ahmad Rahman, a tribal leader of Arabic Tayy tribe, said the prisoners were deceived and used in war, and that the prison served as a correctional center for them.

He added that the released will return to their normal life.

The number of the individuals released is about 141 from both the cities of Qamishli and al-Malikiyah (Derik), the tribal leader noted.

On July 17, the AANES granted a general amnesty for offenses related to terrorism.

On Sunday, the AANES released 180 prisoners who were detained for terrorism-related crimes from the Central Prison in the city of Hasakah.

According to an AANES official, approximately 1,500 prisoners are scheduled to be released under the amnesty issued by the AANES.

The amnesty decision came after tribal efforts and demands for the release of the individuals with terrorism-related crimes.

The release process will be carried out throughout the current week.
