Jordanian army shoots down drone carrying drugs from Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Jordanian army stopped on Saturday a smuggling attempt via a drone that was carrying illegal drugs from Syria into Jordan.

A military source from the Jordanian Armed Forces said that border guards, working with security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, discovered a drone trying to cross the border illegally from Syria into Jordan.

The drone was shot down within Jordanian territory and the confiscated items were handed over to the relevant authorities.

Since the beginning of the Syrian conflict in 2011, there have been many attempts to illegally enter Jordan and smuggle drugs into the country, with most of these activities coming from Syria and Iraq.

Jordanian authorities frequently announce thwarting drug and weapon smuggling attempts on its border with Syria.

On July 18, the Jordanian army announced thwarting an attempt to smuggle 3,990 captagon pills loaded in a projectile, coming from Syria.
