SDF arrests ISIS leader in Syria’s Raqqa
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested on Thursday a leader of the Islamic State (ISIS) in a town in the eastern countryside of Raqqa, northern Syria.
The Military Operations Teams (MOT), a component of the SDF, conducted an anti-ISIS operation in the town of al-Karama, east of the city of Raqqa, the SDF said in a statement.
The operation resulted in the arrest of Fayez Abid al-Muhammad who originally hails from the village of Khneiz in the south of Raqqa.
The SDF added that al-Muhammad was “an ISIS cell operative” and was “responsible for planning and preparing for terrorist attacks targeting civilians, military forces, and civic services facilities in the region.”
On July 16, the SDF said it arrested three ISIS members including a leader in the town of al-Suwar in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
“Our SDF forces reaffirm their commitment to pursuing ISIS remnants, dismantling their cells, and eradicating them,” the SDF statement concluded.
