Rapprochement stipulates Turkish withdrawal from Syria – AANES
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Any agreement or understanding between the Syrian government and Turkey must include withdrawal of the occupied areas and a political solution to the Syrian conflict, the Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Thursday.
In a statement published on its official website, the AANES Foreign Relations Department said any understanding between parties to the conflict must stipulate safe return of the Syrian refugees, release the detainees, and guarantee the rights of the communities of Syria.
The statement came as a comment on the recent reports about a possible Syrian-Turkish rapprochement following statements by a number of Syrian and Turkish top officials.
Late in June, Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan showed willingness to restore relations with the Syrian government saying there is no obstacle preventing Turkey and Syria from restoring diplomatic relations.
Later in July, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said Turkey has not given any guarantees, as “we are moving positively on clear principals which are international law and national sovereignty.”
The Foreign Relations Department added that the Turkish withdrawal from the occupied areas and the achievement of stability based on changing the policies towards the national issues are a precondition for any agreement.
The Foreign Relations Department confirmed that the unity of Syria and the intra-Syrian dialogue are the right basis for building a democratized Syria and guaranteeing the dignity of Syria.
