Iran’s IRGC holds meeting in Deir ez-Zor to fill gaps
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) held on Friday a meeting included commanders from the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian-backed Liwa al-Quds in the town of al-Mayadin in the southwestern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A military source in the IRGC said the IRGC held a prolonged meeting that lasted for hours at the Iranian base in Ain Ali Shrine in the town of al-Mayadin.
The source added that the meeting was convened due the recent hike in cases of desertion among the IRGC, Hezbollah, and Liwa al-Quds due to low salaries and fear of frequent attacks by the Islamic state (ISIS).
The IRGC commanders announced a 30-percent salary increase for its members starting from August. They also opened recruitment in both Deir ez-Zor and Homs, central Syria, without requiring military training, the source added.
The meeting emphasized the need to scrutinize members before recruiting, imposing smartphones banning on them, not granting leaves without paperwork, and not accepting individuals without background investigation or tribal recommendation by dignitaries affiliated with the IRGC.
Area near Euphrates River has been turned into a secret military training site under the Iranian-backed militias and government forces.
