Local armed group seizes quantities of drugs in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – A local armed group seized on Monday night quantities of drugs in the house of a suspected of drug trafficker in Daraa Governorate in southern Syria.

A source told North Press that a newly formed local group in Daraa, which goes by the name of “The Community Force,” raided the house of a drug dealer in the Daraa al-Balad neighborhood in the city of Daraa and confiscated large quantities of drugs prepared for distribution.

Daraa is dealing with a growing drugs problem as residents observed an increase in the smuggling and trafficking of drugs, leading to a rise in crime and violence in the city.

This has resulted in public dissatisfaction, with people expressing frustration over the lack of government intervention to address and prevent this problem.

According to the source working with the armed group, its leaders have stressed there would be other similar operations in the area.

The group emphasized they would raid any house known to contain drugs in order to protect the residents, the source added.

The source indicated that the Syrian government forces were aware of the activities happening in the raided house where drug manufacturing and trafficking took place but did not take any action about it.

Locals in the area approved of the operation and urged the local group to intensify search for drug dealers and traffickers, the source said.

On June 29, locals found two bodies, one belonging to a drug dealer, killed by unknown gunmen in the countryside of Daraa.
