Unidentified gunmen kill 2 government soldiers in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified gunmen targeted on Monday posts of the Syrian government forces in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, killing two soldiers.

A military source of the government forces told North Press that unidentified gunmen targeted government posts in Salihiya Mountain in the town of al-Majawda, east of Deir ez-Zor, with rockets and automatic weapons.

The source added that fierce clashes with the militants lasted for more than an hour, resulting in the killing of government soldiers.

The Syrian Desert occupies approximately half of Syria’s territory, covering an area of 80,000 square kilometers. It is known for its abundance of valuable resources, including gas fields, oil wells, and phosphates.

The Iranian-backed militias and the government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert which constitutes a source of concern as it witnesses intensive operations by the ISIS sleeper cells.
