SDF’s female wing arrests ISIS leader in Deir ez-Zor

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), an all-female group that is part of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced on Sunday the arrest of a leader of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

The YPJ announced that its forces, in cooperation with the SDF, managed on June 26 to arrest Muhammad al-Bakhit, also known as Abu Ghamid, a prominent ISIS leader, in “a successful special operation.”

It said that Abu Ghamid, hails from the town of Shuhail in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, “played a significant role in ISIS’ terrorist activities in the region and in Turkey for years.”

The ISIS leader was arrested while he was secretly crossing from Syrian government-held areas to his town, Shuhail.
