ISIS militants set fire to oil well in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) set fire on Monday to an oil well in Deir ez-Zor Governorate in eastern Syria after the investor of the oil refused to pay Zakat to the group.

A local source from the town of Diban, east of Deir ez-Zor, said two militants who were riding a motorcycle set fire to al-Sijan oil well in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

This came after the investor of the well refused to pay Zakat (obligatory payment in Islam) to the group, the source added.

Although the group was expelled from the region, there are sleeper cells that operate in the Syrian Desert through carrying out attacks and imposing Zakat on the residents.

The source indicated that the investor had received threats via WhatsApp to be forced to pay the Zakat, but he refused.
