Separate blasts in Deir ez-Zor kill, injure government personnel

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North press) – Two separate explosions killed on Wednesday a soldier of the Syrian government forces and two militants of the Iranian-backed Liwa al-Quds in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

A military source in the government forces told North Press that an IED planted near Hamdan Airport in the town of Abu Kamal, eastern Syria, exploded on a vehicle of the government’s Division 18 while it was patrolling, killing a soldier and injuring three others.

The source added that a military vehicle of the Iranian-backed Liwa al-Quds was destroyed by a landmine at the entrance of the village of Sholah in southwestern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, resulting in the killing of two militants and the injury of another.

Liwa al-Quds is a branch of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and it is specialized in unconventional warfare and military intelligence.
