Israeli airstrikes on southern Syria kill government officer

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israeli airstrikes on southern Syria on Wednesday led to the killing of an officer, Syria’s state-run news agency SANA reported.

Israeli forces launched drone attacks on two sites in the governorates of Quneitra and Daraa in southern Syria, SANA said.

SANA cited a military source of the government forces as saying “A about 7:00 a.m., the Israeli enemy launched an aerial aggression with drones targeting two military sites of our armed forces in the countryside of Quneitra and Daraa.”

It added that the attacks led to the killing of an officer of the government forces and some material damage.

Israel continues to carry out airstrikes on sites in Syria, especially since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on Oct. 7, 2023.

It claims that the strikes target weapons warehouses linked to Iranian-backed militias.

Israeli government rarely comments on or claims the airstrikes.
