SDF arrests 2 ISIS militants in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Thursday the arrest of two militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

The SDF said in a statement via its official website that special units of the SDF conducted a security operation in the town of Shuhail, east of Deir ez-Zor, targeting a sleeper cell of ISIS “consisting of two terrorists who were involved in numerous terrorist acts in the area.”

The SDF added that the two arrestees were “Faisal Ziad al-safad known by the alias Mesha’al al-Iraqi, an assistant Wali of Deir ez-Zor, the second one is Muhannad Khaled al-Afi.”

The SDF indicated that both arrestees were involved in a series of attacks against its forces and innocent civilians. Their involvement included planning and participating in bombings, planting IEDs, and carrying out assassinations, particularly within the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The SDF noted that they seized in the security operation an AK 47 rifle, one AK 47 magazine, an explosive belt, nine mobiles, personal documents, and sums of money in both SYP and U.S. dollars.
