QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The United Kingdom (UK) amended on Thursday regulations of the Syria (Sanctions) that are related to the petroleum products.
The UK’s amendment included the expansion of the eligibility criteria for reliance on the humanitarian exception from solely UK-funded companies.
The goals was to include international organizations that carry out humanitarian assistance in Syria and bilaterally or multilaterally fund NGOs participating in U.N. humanitarian response plans, according to the content of the amendment.
The UK also widened the scope of the humanitarian exception to apply to ‘acquisitions’ rather than the ‘purchase’ of petroleum products.
The Syria (Sanctions) came fully into force on Dec. 31, 2020. They are aimed at encouraging the Syrian government to refrain from repressing the civilian population in Syria, and participate in negotiations to reach a political settlement and a peaceful solution to the conflict in Syria.
