SDF’s Abdi expresses support for de-escalation with Turkey

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said on Saturday they support de-escalation with all parties, including Turkey, indicating that the regional interferences were the main reason of complicating the Syrian conflict.

Abdi’s speech came during a tribes forum in the city of Hasakah in Northeast Syria that is being held by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

He called for the return of the displaced people of Afrin, Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad to their places of origin.

Abdi said the people of Afrin, Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad should return to their areas, and that the Turkish occupation of these areas must come to an end.

The three Kurdish-majority areas in northern Syria have been under the Turkish occupation since 2018-2019. The occupation led to the forcibly displacement of original people of those areas.

He pointed out that the solution to the Syrian conflict lies in the recognition of the current situation in Northeast Syria.

The SDF commander confirmed that his forces will continue their partnership with the U.S.-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS.

The tribes forum entitled “Dialogue, Safety, Construction for Unified Decentralized Syria,” and was attended by about 5,000 people from all Syrian tribes, Christian figures and tribal sheikhs.
