Gunmen kill, injure 2 government soldiers in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified gunmen attacked on Friday a military post of the Syrian government forces in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria, that resulted in two casualties.

A local source told North Press that unknown gunmen opened fire on the military post of the government forces in the town of Jebab, north of Daraa.

The source said that the attack led to the killing of soldier of the Fourth Armored Division and the injury of another.

Led by Maher al-Assad, brother of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the Fourth Armored Division is an elite formation of the government forces whose primary purpose is to defend the Syrian government from internal and external threats. It played a key role in some battles of the Syrian conflict.

Daraa experiences a state of insecurity as frequent incidents of killings occur without any specific party claiming responsibility for these attacks.

On Thursday, locals found the body of Omar al-Ali, member of the Military Security Branch of the Syrian government forces, with visible gunshot wounds in the east of the village of Jaddel in the northeast of Daraa.
