Iranian president, FM found dead in helicopter crash
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was confirmed to be dead after his helicopter was crashed in northwestern Iran on Sunday, Iranian official media announced on Monday.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amirabdollahian, East Azarbaijan Province’s Governor, Malek Rahmati, head of Raisi’s guard team, Mehdi Mousavi, and Supreme Leader’s representative in the province, Mohammad Ali Al-e-Hashem, were on board the crashed helicopter, Iran’s state-run news agency IRNA said.
Raisi and his delegation were returning from a ceremony to inaugurate a dam on Iran’s border with Azerbaijan when their helicopter crashed upon landing in Varzaqan region.
The wreckage of the helicopter was found by rescue teams in the early hours of Monday.
Raisi’s convoy included three helicopters. Two of which, carrying a number of ministers and officials, landed safely in the foggy weather, semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.
The Iranian government will soon release an official statement, IRNA announced.
