SDF kills ISIS leader, captures 2 others in Deir ez-Zor

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Sunday they killed a leader of the Islamic State (ISIS) and captured two others in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

The Anti-Terrorism Units (YAT) of the SDF with support from the U.S.-led Global Coalition forces conducted two separate operations in May 16 and 17, the SDF Media Center reported.

The first operation was in the town of al-Busayrah in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor during which an ISIS leader named Amjad Hassan, aka Abu Zainab was killed.

Abu Zainab was responsible for the VBIED attack on the SDF military post in the town of al-Shuhail on May 10, which resulted in the killing of three SDF fighters, the SDF Media Center noted.

On May 10, three SDF fighters were killed in a suicide car bomb carried out by ISIS in the town of Shuhail.

The second operation was in the desert of Dashisha, east of Deir ez-Zor, which resulted in the capturing of two individuals with links to ISIS.

During the operation, the YAT managed to seize weapons and mobile phones

The SDF reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing ISIS sleeper cells in northern and eastern Syria through “successful operations aimed at preventing ISIS from threatening civilians and destabilizing the region’s security and stability.”
