ISIS kills 2 Iranian-backed members in Syrian Desert

HOMS, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State (ISIS) killed on Thursday two members of an Iranian-backed militia in the Syrian Desert.

ISIS militants launched an attack on Liwa al-Quds, a militia affiliated with Iran, in the northern countryside of al-Sukhnah that is administratively related to Homs Governorate.

A source of the government forces said the attack led to the killing of Ahmad Bahjat Othman and Omar Ahmad al-Harbek who were members of the Liwa al-Quds.

The Syrian Desert covers nearly half of Syria as it stretches across the governorates of Hama, Homs, Raqqa, Aleppo, and Deir ez-Zor.

Large areas of the Syrian Desert are controlled by Iranian-backed militias and the government forces. The areas frequently witness intensive operations and attacks, mostly claimed by ISIS sleeper cells.
