Talks with government to find political solution for Syria fail – AANES
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – An official in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Thursday the AANES’ meetings with the Syrian government in a bid to find a political solution for the Syrian crisis failed to achieve the desired results.
Avin Suwaid, co-chair of the AANES’ Executive Council, said, “These meetings do not rise to a level where they constitute a serious step to find a comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis,” ANHA agency reported.
The AANES announced on April 18, 2023, an initiative called the Peaceful Resolution of the Syrian Crisis in accordance with United Nations resolutions and expressed readiness to start a dialogue with the Syrian government and with all Syrian parties following the failure of all international initiatives.
The official criticized the Syrian government’s negative response to all the efforts made by the AANES and called on all concerned parties to meet to reach a political solution for the Syrian crisis.
Suwaid pointed out the AANES had also held meetings with most Arab countries in this context, but did not achieve the results they aspired to.
The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) defeated the Islamic State (ISIS) militarily there.
