Kurdish journalist from Syria wins 2024 Radio Awards

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A Kurdish journalist from Syria won on Wednesday the New York Festivals 2024 Radio Awards as a field producer for a podcast.

Fahad Fattah, a journalist from the city of Qamishli in northeast Syria, won the 2024 Radio Awards for “Bloodlines” podcast that was produced by CBC Podcasts and BBC Asian Network during the New York Festivals Storytellers Gala.

Fattah is a Kurdish man from Qamishli and has worked in the field of journalism for about 10 years.

“Bloodlines” tells the story of a generation of children who, in the aftermath of the Islamic State group (ISIS), were forced into a reality they never chose.

The podcast delves into the lives of these children, born under the shadow of ISIS’ so-called Caliphate or taken there by radicalized parents.

New York Festivals honors those storytellers around the world and across all platforms who have created the content which so impressed their Grand Jury members.

The 2024 Storytellers Gala is a virtual ceremony that is held on April 16 each year.
