Truffle hunters find body of Iran-backed militant in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, truffle hunters discovered the body of an Iranian-backed militant who had been murdered with gunshot wounds in a town in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
Military source told North Press that a group of truffle hunters came across the body of a 38-year-old named Hassan al-Rifai, affiliated with of the Iranian-backed Liwa al-Quds, He had been shot in the head on the outskirts of the al-Masrab town, western Deir ez-Zor.
The source added that the militant is from the same town and went missing on April 10 after leaving his house towards one of the military bases in outskirt of the town.
Areas in Deir ez-Zor Governorate located to the west of the Euphrates River are under the control of the government forces and the Iranian-backed militias. These areas witness intensive attacks, mostly by the Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells.
On April 11, an unknown group attacked a headquarters in the desert of al-Masrab, resulting in the killing a militant affiliated with the Fatemiyoun Brigade of Iran’s Liwa al-Quds.
