Lebanese army says Syrians kill politician, transfer body to Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Lebanese army announced on Monday that Syrian kidnappers killed a Lebanese local political official belonging to a party that opposes the powerful Iran-backed Hezbollah movement and transported his body to Syria.

The Lebanese army said in a post on X Platform that the military intelligence succeeded in arresting the majority of the gang members who confessed to the murder of Sleiman.

Sleiman was a local coordinator in the Jbeil area, north of Beirut, for the Christian Lebanese Forces party that opposes Damascus and its ally Hezbollah.

The army is coordinating with Syrian authorities to return Sleiman’s body to Lebanon.

The abduction and killing sparked political and popular tensions in Lebanon, especially in Jbeil, as protesters blocked the main highway between Beirut and the North over the incident.
