Unknown gunmen kill 2 former opposition militants in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified gunmen fatally shot on Wednesday two former opposition militants in the countryside of Daraa, southern Syria.
A local source told North Press that Abdullah al-Hushan and Akram al-Hamd were killed by unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle in the town of Mahajjah in the north of Daraa.
The two militants, who hailed from Mahajjah, were shot on the outskirts of the town, leading to their immediate killing, according to the source.
The source further indicated that both men had previously signed a settlement agreement in 2018 and had not joined any military party since.
In July 2018, the armed factions of the Syrian opposition and the Syrian government forces reached a ceasefire agreement mediated by Russia in the opposition-held areas in Daraa. Under the deal, the armed factions agreed to hand over their weapons in exchange for staying in Daraa, and those who opposed the agreement were sent to Idlib Governorate, northwestern Syria, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS – formerly al-Nusra Front).
Daraa and its countryside have been experiencing unstable security since 2018 as frequent incidents of killings occur without any specific party claiming responsibility for these attacks.
