QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – North Press revealed the details of the targeted leaders in the airstrikes on Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, on Tuesday, along with the nature of the assigned tasks, their real names, and their movements.

The airstrikes resulted in the killing of more than 30 militants from Iranian-backed militias. Syria’s Foreign Ministry accused the United States of carrying out the airstrikes, while the U.S. Department of Defense denied conducting any airstrikes in Syria the previous night.

The targeted leaders are Behrouz Wahidi, an Iranian national and a colonel in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and Hajj Askar, a commander in the IRGC.

North Press obtained information indicating that Wahidi entered Deir ez-Zor during the month of Ramadan. He was responsible for the correspondence and information department there.

As for Askar, his real name is Baqer Karimi, and he is one of the early commanders of the IRGC who took control of Deir ez-Zor in late 2017.

Askar was appointed as a general commander in the town of Abu Kamal in Deir ez-Zor countryside, directly overseeing the process of transferring weapons from Iraq to Syria.

Askar was close to Hajj Qamil, the commander of IRGC in the eastern region, and he is responsible for Brigade 47, which trains and arms tribes and secures their passage to the east bank of the Euphrates River to fight against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Askar was injured in the bombardment of his residence near al-Maari School in Abu Kamal.
