SDF announces killing ISIS financier in Syria’s Raqqa
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Anti-Terrorism Units (YAT), affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), in a joint security operation with the U.S.-led Global Coalition, killed on Saturday a key financier of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Raqqa Governorate, north Syria.
The SDF media center said in a statement that the targeted “terrorist” is called Sameer al-Shihan, an Iraqi national responsible for funding ISIS cells within Raqqa.
“Supported by Coalition air surveillance, our YAT forces raided where the terrorist al-Shihan was hiding,” according to the statement.
Al-Shihan ignored the call for safe surrender and resisted the SDF, who “handled the situation with utmost professionalism and eliminated him,” the source added.
During the operation, the YAT confiscated eight smartphones, personal documents, a Wifi router, a pistol, three pistol magazines, a camera, flash drives, and a sum of money.
