Syrian Red Crescent ceases providing aid due to lack of funding
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – An administrator working in the Syrian Red Crescent Hospital stated on Wednesday that they ceased providing aid to needy families in government-controlled areas by the end of 2023.
The source told North Press that the cessation of providing aid is attributed to the cessation of support and funding by donors.
On Dec. 4, the World Food Program (WFP) announced that it will end its primary aid program in Syria in January 2024 due to lack of funding. This decision was driven by a severe funding shortage.
The source mentioned thefts targeting the international aid reaching Damascus, involving the distribution of fake lists and selling them in markets, or reducing the allocated quantities for specific areas.
The Syrian Red Crescent will soon sign a new contract to secure aid, although it did not disclose the specifics of the aid or the donors, according to the source.
